Hi there. My name is Jones. I am a retired Iowa racing Greyhound. I ran Grade A at Bluffs Run in Council Bluffs. I was born and raised on the Schaben farm in Portsmouth, Iowa. I raced in the Mickim Kennel with the racing name of RJ’s Beretta. I was adopted by Bob and Suzy McKinnon, also known as Maddog McDermutt and Little Elsie, who write and take pictures for The Greyhound Review, and for the last four years I have lived in Great Falls, Montana. I have a novel in my name; I am the star of a 21 minute film; I have been a guest at numerous adoption functions; I have had an Iowa Stakes Race named after me; I have been on television shows; I have been back to Iowa a half dozen times, most recently to spend eleven days, 9-9, at the Iowa State Fair where I was petted bald by thousands of Iowa dog lovers, as historically narrated in Maddog’s story, “The Bald Soprano.” But, there was more: this magazine, Travels With Jones. After the 2005 Iowa State Fair, Maddog, Little Elsie and I, on our way back to Montana, visited Iowa dog farms. Our assignment was to produce a pictorial magazine of Iowa Greyhound farms and to provide a glimpse into the farms and the people and dogs who live on these farms.
