would have traveled up their spines and settled on the edges of their very souls. Something dark, sinister, and horrific was taking place in the neighborhood and most would presumed the darkness was emulating from the house with the loud music.
It was that very second that a faint, muffled voice could be heard. It was the voice of a young woman sounding as though she was in a desperate situation and trying to remove herself. Her cries went unheard, however. The stickiness in the air and the mist of the rain kept the joggers, the bicyclists, and the pet walkers at bay, forcing them to stay within the air conditioned confines of their homes.
In the silence that followed a couple hours later, a faint wind blew through the streets that brought with it a foreboding tone. It was a cautionary wind, one that said, “revenge.”
