Larry Butt is a struggling divorced father of 12 year old Harry. Harry lives with his dad Larry and comes from a working class background and they live in Yorkshire but struggle to make ends meet. Larry’s mum Betsey left home when Harry was young as she suffered from depression and couldn’t cope. Harry has a keen interest in skating and wants to be accepted by friends at the local park. Harry builds a relationship with Lilly on their paper round together. Harry buys a new skateboard and learns new tricks and attracts the girls. Harry enters a competition and becomes rich and famous with his skateboard design. Harry becomes more fashionable and listens to punk music. Harry has a home tutor called Jerry. Larry meets a money grabbing woman called Ruby who doesn't like Harry. Harry’s mother hears of his fame and fortune and wants to come back home to help with his affairs. Harry struggles with friendship and becomes upset. Harry loses his money and lives a normal life again as a skater at the local park.
