I have skied for fifty seven years, but it seemed such a terrible title for a book. In that period I have been heavily involved in both recreational and professional skiing. My new book includes a personal brief history in equipment, clothing and technique. At the age of 64 years I succeeded in reaching my lifetimes ambition to be a ski bum. I spent the season in Sierra Nevada, Spain in the company of many friends who enhanced the experience more than they will ever know. I simply sat down this summer and wrote the book from start to finish, I thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing to myself as I filled the pages with ease. Many of my ski friends enjoy my waffling about the past and have said you could write a book with your experience, so here it is, I sincerely hope you enjoy reading my personal experiences. My 2014/2015 season as a ski bum is very simply a duplication of my diary. I included weather and snow conditions most days alongside a few comments and further included all expenses so fellow skiers can obtain a rough idea how inexpensive it can be to reach your lifetime ambition. My diary could have been fairly repetitious so I included a ski tip for everyday. That is, 100 ski tips that you may know but if there is only one that improves your skiing and furthers your enjoyment or makes skiing less effort I will be again very happy.
It is irrelevant to me but I am now classed as severely disabled. I have tried ever since I contracted cancer to lead as normal as possible life, it has been a great effort, I will be the first to admit, but I would not have been able to be a ski bum if I had to continue to work, so last season was my justified present to myself for the grief and anguish I have suffered for the last nearly ten years.
I am not complaining it has been some of the best times of my life and I have been lucky enough to have had many fulfilling happy periods though out my life.
