HUNTING TALES FOR THE CAMPFIRE (English Edition)

This book tells several stories from the real world. You do not need to filter them from your children; they do not contain any filthy words or suggestive language like so many other books and magazines. I believe after you read this you will rate it a CAPITOL G.

In a compendium of condensed stories, the reader is taken through the unique experience of walking along with various characters, which will expose you to a distinctive look into their world.

I am 75 years old now and no longer able to walk the true path of the lover of the outdoors but I remember every rock, stream, and tree that I ever walked by, sought shelter under, or climbed. I love and respect the trees, the waters, the wildlife, and Mother Earth as much as anyone else that I have known.

These stories are from a number of sources and are like the oral tradition of our ancestors. They have been told so many times that they have been memorized and now committed to written form. Our ancestors told their written version on the cave walls and painted animal skins showing their legendary heroic warriors and origin myths. There are legends and myths of visitors coming on horses before they knew what a horse was; as well as visitors which came from across the big waters, from holes in the earth and from the sky.

Who knows which ones are history and which are imagination. It is now your choice to believe or not. In either case, I hope you enjoy the tales and find occasion to tell them around a campfire with family and friends. You may choose to substitute your name or the name of your family members or friends in the stories where appropriate.

Here follows many of the myths and legends that I have heard told and retold over the years. My memory is far from perfect so if the reader of these words has a different recollection of any of these events, kindly correct the error during your repeating them around your campfire. I pray that you will enjoy the reciting of these myths and legends and find it worth the time it takes to read, remember, and retell them.

You must remember that a myth or tale only becomes a tail when it covers a horse’s backside. A tale or myth is only a tail when it hurts someone else in the telling. These tales have been told repeatedly around campfires, at family and friends gatherings, some for as much as one hundred years without ever being hurtful to anyone mentioned in the telling. As you tell them, remember that once spoken, words can and do hurt. As a very dear friend of mine, a Cherokee elder once said, “Chew your words twice before you open your mouth to speak.”

While camping I have enjoyed many campfires and heard many old stories from the past. I learned to respect the words of my elders and heed their advice. Learn these stories and tell them around a campfire with your family and friends.

Above all else enjoy them and if you like them, don’t wait long before reading my other books, coming soon. You will never be shocked that your children are reading these books.
